Minority Report: How Police Can Really Predict Crime

Watch Video
PDF
Can you imagine that a thief, a rapist or any other criminal could be arrested today even before he commits his crime? This sci-fi scenario is already partly an established  reality in Los Angeles, Zurich or Milan. Predictive police is in charge of predicting the location and date of the next crime scene. Using data provided by police services, algorithms calculate delineated risk areas, with a high probability that a crime is to be committed at a given period. In Zurich, residents receive text alerts urging them to be more vigilant! In Los Angeles, police officers are told what areas they are going to patrol specifically according to the calculations of the algorithm. Is there a legal framework to control the use of these new tools? How to evaluate and control them even though they are developed by private companies? What are the risks of infringements of privacy when IA, big business and justice are all of a sudden inextricably intertwined? English version available: contact us for more information!
