They are sometimes called the sailors of the mountains. They cover the roofs of the most beautiful architectural buildings in Switzerland with tavaillons and shingles. This exceptional heritage was developed over several centuries by craftsmen who wished to maintain a challenging tradition. The shingle-makers’ art is multiple and secret. After choosing the trees from which the shingles are made, the craftsmen must cut the shingles by hand before installing them in lofty and sometimes extreme conditions. Three master shingle-makers allow us to discover their perfect touch of hand on the roofs of houses in the most beautiful Swiss Alpine pastures.
