Sexual Predators Prowling Dating Apps
Hugely successful dating apps such as Tinder or GrindR have a dark side: they leave the field open to sexual predators. Encounters that go wrong, sexual brutality, rape, multiple and lasting traumas: the testimonies of victims are chilling. Most free dating apps operate from a lawless zone that does not even spare minors, where false identities and indifference rule with absolute impunity. While the companies downplay their responsibility, most victims isolate themselves due to deep feelings of shame and guilt. Fewer of them are willing to engage in a court process because of low prospects of success. Only 1% of sexual assaults are believed to lead to a conviction.
