

My Body, Whose Choice? Europe's Unassisted Single Mothers-To-Be

In Italy, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany, the law still does not allow single women the legal right to access sperm donation and assisted reproductive technology (ART). They are referred to as 'single mothers by choice,' and their numbers are continuously increasing. This rapidly evolving social phenomenon has driven legislative changes in many European countries. However, for others, accessing ART at private clinics in Denmark or Spain remains the only option. From conception to birth, we followed the journey of one of these women who decided to have a baby on her own.
